The adventure begins with an exciting, short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,800 m), where you will meet your guide and the Sherpa team. From Lukla, your trek to Phakding is relatively easy and mostly downhill, as you cross the Dudh Kosi River, which carries the pale glacial sediment that gives it its name, “Milk River.” Many of the region’s bridges were initially built by Sir Edmund Hillary’s Himalayan Trust, with later replacements being sturdy metal suspension bridges. This short hike allows for acclimatization, and you’ll arrive in Phakding for an overnight stay.
