Everest Sherpa Village Trek

Everest Sherpa Village Trek

The Sherpas of the Khumbu are world-renowned as skilled and intrepid mountaineers, trekking guides, “ice doctors” and as expedition porters.  They are rated by universal alpinists as some of the best in the world.   When not on the mountains,  they help their families in tending their farms around their remote villages growing millet, barley, buckwheat, corn, wheat, rice and potatoes and keeping livestock which include the Himalayan buffalo (yak).  Their neat little villages reflect their ancient culture and Buddhist religion.  It is a delight to visit a Sherpa village, to be invited into their homes and being offered salted-buttered-tea, or home-brewed rice/millet beer, and to share their famously warm courtesy and hospitality.  This short trek includes Namche Bazaar, Thame (Tenzing Norgay’s birthplace) and grand old Thyangboche monastery.
